Silent Installation

PixEdit Desktop and PixView

When deploying PixEdit® Desktop or PixView® for many users, using the standard installation .exe is not very convenient. Having to step through the whole user interface for every user is simply not practical. For such deployment scenarios, we provide a special installation package. You can find these installation packages on a separate page under your "Licenses and Downloads" page on pixedit.com which is named Advanced Installation.

On this page you will find .zip packages that are named "...SilentSetup.zip". Download the zip package for your product to your local machine and unzip it. In the package there are 2 files:

  • Package.msi
  • Install.bat

Package.msi is the actual installation file, which is used by msiexec, the Microsoft Installer. The .bat file contains the suggested msiexec commands that you will run to install the software. Open up the Install.bat file in a text editor, and please read the instructions carefully. At the bottom, you will see the following command line:

msiexec /i Package.msi /qn PRODUCTKEY="XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX" SERIALNUMBER="XXX-XXXXX-XX"

"/i" means "install" and "/qn" means "run quietly", i.e. without any user interface. What you need to do, to actually install the software, is to replace the values of PRODUCTKEY and SERIALNUMBER with your license product key and serial number.

PixEdit Server and PixEdit Converter Server

Sometimes, when deploying PixEdit® Server, using the standard installation .exe with the user interface is not very convenient. Hence, for administrative deployment scenarios, we provide a special installation package.

Open up the .bat file in a text editor, and please read the instructions carefully. At the bottom, you will see the command line, but there are modifications that have to be done to be able to perform a successful installation: You must fill in appropriate values for all the required parameters on the command line. This is information specific to your system and license which the installation needs.
